Description

ALMARE gelato italiano is a family owned gelato shop in the heart of downtown Berkeley. Our gelato is made fresh each morning in our gelato “lab” located on our store premises. We use only the freshest of ingredients, patronizing local food suppliers such as Monterey Market and Berkeley Bowl for strawberries, lemons, peaches, grapefruits and other seasonal fruits.

We implement a traditional process of gelato making that we learned from our great uncle Dino del Favaro in Italy, who made gelato for over sixty years in his hometown in Reggio Emilia, Italy. He taught us that true artisan gelato takes time to make, time for the ingredients to blend together before they are frozen. He also taught us never to cut corners with artificial powders or chemicals that better the appearance of the gelato but compromise the flavor. Our gelato making technique affirms Berkeley’s established tradition of authentic, fine food.
